Amador, El Dorado & Calaveras Counties, located in California's Sierra Nevada foothills, are commonly referred to as "Gold Country" due to the rich history of gold mining in the area.

The California Gold Rush of 1849 brought thousands of prospectors to the region, and many towns in the area, such as Placerville, Sutter Creek and Murphys, were built during this time. Today, visitors can still experience the history of gold mining through tours of historic mines and gold panning activities.

In addition to its mining history, the region is also known for its wine industry. The rolling hills and warm climate of Amador, El Dorado and Calaveras Counties are well-suited for growing a variety of grape varietals, and there are many wineries and tasting rooms in the area. Award-winning wines, restaurants, and boutiques fill the main streets in these charming towns.

The region is also close to Lake Tahoe and the San Francisco Bay Area. Lake Tahoe offers a wide range of outdoor recreational opportunities such as skiing, hiking, and boating, while the Bay Area offers access to the culture and amenities of a major metropolitan area. And Sacramento International Airport is a short 1-2 hour drive from these areas.

Families will find many activities to do in the region, such as visiting the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, the historic town of Coloma, and the Black Chasm Cavern. There are also many parks and hiking trails in the area, as well as opportunities for camping, fishing, and water sports.

Whether enjoying the foothills on as vacationers or calling it home, you’re sure to enjoy and fall in love with the plethora of lifestyles offered.
